DANGERS OF HOLISTIC HEALTH ALTERNATIVES:To add to the quagmire of spiritual dangers, many Christians are involved in the supposed health benefits of eastern based alternative (holistic) medicine without perhaps realising the dangers that come with embracing an eastern philosophical worldview. Such teachings believe man's body can be healed through connection with the spirit world because man's physical body, emotional soul and spirit are seen to be all connected in a "oneness" known as "wholeness" (holistic) and can be treated through holistic (treatment of mind, body and spirit as one) medicinal methodology.
The Bible teaches that our body, soul (our heartfelt emotions and morality) and spirit are not connected in a spiritual "oneness". While each makes up the whole person they are to be treated as different and separate realities. The body is created to be godly and righteousness through the work of the Holy Spirit given as a gift through faith in Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul teaches that bodily exercise profits a little for a temporal time but godliness is profitable in this life and for eternity (1 Tim.4:7-8).
Genesis teaches that after God created man and formed him from the dust of the ground, God breathed the breath of life (eternal and physical) into man's nostrils and man became a living soul (Gen.2:7). At that point man was created with God's morality and emotions. We learn later that through Satan's lies and seduction Eve was seduced. At that point sin was introduced into God's perfect environment bringing separation from God (an immediate spiritual death) and later a physical death. Later we're told since then we're all born in the image and likeness of Adam with a sinful nature (Gen. 5:3), but a second Adam in Jesus Christ (fully perfect) came to "quicken our spirit" and make it alive again (1 Cor.15:45) to take us from our dead natural self to a new creation in Christ Jesus (Gal. 6:15). Through precious promises believers in Jesus Christ are able to become "partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust" (2 Pet.1:4). Only in Holy Scripture, the Word of God, the Bible, can the answers of our wholeness be found and not in pagan "holistic alternatives".
Yet, shockingly, in January 2011, Rick Warren (author of the Purpose Driven books) Pastor of Saddleback, the eighth largest church in USA, introduced three New Age doctors and their occult healing methods to his twenty eight thousand Californian congregation, including his forty thousand Purpose Driven Life satellite churches worldwide. The loud and clear message from Saddleback's Daniel Health Program was that its OK for Christians to be involved in Eastern mystical "health" alternatives for the body and soul. Between them, the three New Age doctors, Dr. Oz (a Muslim), Dr Hyman (a Jew) and Dr. Amen (a New Age Christian Mystic) promoted, among other occult spiritual techniques, Tantra Yoga, Transcendental Meditation, Satana Prayer invocation, Reiki (Japanese healing) and Ayurvedic Medicine and Herbal remedies.
KUNDALINI SERPENT POWER: Eastern wellbeing philosophy teaches that man is not a sinner but ignorant of the residing-within-divinity dwelling in each person in the form of a coiled serpent, called Kundalini, wrapped at the base of the spine. This sleeping snake is understood to give powerful spiritual wisdom. In all eastern cultures the snake is represented as "wisdom". In India it can be seen coiled around the neck of Shiva-god who is also depicted sitting on snakes from which he derives his power.
The kundalini is empowered through various psychic exercises including Yoga which is believed to "awaken" the wisdom and push it upward through the seven "chakras" (psychic wheels and energy points supposedly located along the spine) until kundalini arrives at the 'third eye" believed to be between the eyebrows in the middle of the forehead. At this place kundalini gives the practitioner a mental (spiritual) experience, understood to be god-consciousness (enlightenment) when the devotee becomes "one with the whole". A state of "release" from personal uniqueness blends the practitioner with the void-state. This emptiness is understood to be a beneficial state and a good liberation bringing "unity with the Supreme" (a Blissful state). The removal from earthly connections is understood to be freedom.
In its Christianised language this technique is known as "practising the presence of god", or "the silence" or "being still and knowing god-within". Many Christians today in the new Emergent Movement with its "new Christian spirituality believe they can evoke the so-called Holy Spirit (unholy demons) residing within Christians. Man cannot "evoke" the Creator God to do man's bidding and give man what he/she desires. Only unholy spirits respond to the conjuring of pagan calls to the willing and unknowing. The Lord's Prayer teaches, "Thy Will be done" (Mat.5:10, Lk.11:2) and Jesus Christ taught we must deny ourselves to follow him (Mat.16:24, Mark 8:34). Demons promote self desire, self lust, self worth and self esteem etc. Such are the perilous signs of the last days when "men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers....." (2 Tim.3:2)
Self absorption and Eastern Mysticism's positive self imagery are in sharp contrast to Bible teachings. Man is a sinner, dead in trespasses, only has wickedness dwells within himself not divinity. Snake-power within is identified with Satan who has a wisdom seated in rebellion against the Authority of God, the Creator. Perhaps in the Biblical sense, the sleeping snake said to be within everyone could be identified as Satan residing in man until man repents of his individual sin and denounces the sinful nature to become born-again through the power of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. To call on snake power for a spiritual experience is a dangerous provocation fraught with demonic torments. The Bible instructs to keep the mind girded (1 Pet.1:13) and to guard the heart against doctrines of demons and their lies. No amount of mental gymnastics through altered states and the conjuring of imagery can result in "freedom" from suffering, guilt or the wages of sin which is ultimate death. There is only one remedy from guilt of sins and their results of death and that is Jesus Christ. "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." (Rom.6:23 & 22)
TEST ALL SPIRITUAL MESSAGES AGAINST SCRIPTURE: The Bible teaches to test all spirits to see if they are from God, (1 John 4:1) but thousands of Christians engaged in eastern mysticism don't test the spirits who invade their minds and prayer life and are, perhaps unknowingly, opening themselves up to grave supernatural dangers. In Saddleback Church, through Pastor Rick Warren's endorsement, spiritual harm has gained access into the lives of his congregation who involve themselves in pagan and occult practises for the gain of good health. Jesus asked, "What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mk..8:36)
The Bible says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) and we are all in need of salvation and a Saviour found in Jesus Christ, and his completed work on the cross. Jeremiah 17:9 says, "the heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick" but Eastern philosophy says within each person is deity, a divine spark, all goodness, resources to be tapped into, etc. It also teaches that all of nature is divinity, all awareness is god-consciousness, and all are basically interconnected in a huge god-ness (known as pantheism and panentheism that says God is in everything and everything is God).
Within the Eastern mystical worldview is the idea that evil, poverty, sickness and even faeces is divinity. This "oneness" (all is one) must be tapped into for spiritual enlightenment and healing. This thinking denies what the Bible refers to as demonic powers and principalities, instead these are said not to be negative devils but friends, guides, energies and resources that have potential to give mankind whatever is desired. The methods to reach these "energies" are mind-altering processes through yoga, contemplation or meditation that use repetitive chants and asanas (yoga postures designed to unite the body to supernatural entities), and have the power to change the mind from objective thought to subjective mind-numbing, non-thinking states that usher in spiritual experiences (and torments from the demonic realm).
The Bible says in the first commandment (Deut.6:5) that "thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart" (mind, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory) "and with all thy soul" (activity of mind). Biblical meditation engages the mind in cognitive thought and reasoning through which the Holy Spirit of God can instruct and reveal His Truths about Jesus Christ based in Holy Scripture. Eastern contemplation/meditation demands the mind to go into neutral or be vacated (forced to "be still") through mind-altering techniques. Through the use of imagery and self hypnosis one is able to conjure "blissful" experiences given in messages by lying demons who are able to convince the practitioner (who is without his or her critical faculties) that awareness of one's divinity is "enlightenment" (all is merged into "oneness"). The accompanying spiritual rituals used include deep breathing, self-hypnotic rhythms, concentration on the internal, repetitive chanting, visualisation and yoga postures.
SPIRIT HEALING: The Reiki master, Shaman priest, witch doctor, Guru godman, or any such alternative health healer, convinces his patient he is calling on "white" or "good" supernatural guides and energies to provide supposedly beneficial health and wellness to them. But if the obedient Christian tests those claims against the Bible as commanded, they'll find warnings not to make contact with the spirit world. While supernatural powers have great abilities, signs and wonders, their source is in rebellion, destruction, lies and seduction and comes from Satan who gets powers through his own resources of iniquity (John 8:44). No matter what the liars promote about the supposed benefits of their miracles and experiences, they result in diabolically dark outcomes with eternal consequences, and often times are manifested with dangerous physical side effects and perhaps even desires for suicide.
I was born and raised in India for almost 20 years of my life and saw firsthand many of the problems that enveloped innocent victims who'd turned to evil sources for their needs and desires. One only needs to look at the general uncleanliness, deprivation and poverty of the Indian's lifestyle to see the emptiness of the claims of eastern mysticism on its Hindu devotees. Gurus, godmen, ascended masters, their teachings based in myths and fables, the promises of Ayurvedic medicine, and yoga disciplines - if these gave physical well-being and prosperity why wouldn't the benefits of euphoric bliss, overwhelming wealth and good health be part of India's culture? Instead disease and corruption are rampant, below the breadline poverty is standard living, woeful slavery and heartbreaking child prostitution abounds. It only takes an inkling of common sense to see that the eastern promise of god-like spirituality to the one-ness bliss philosophy is not benefiting the Hindu masses but connecting themselves to snake divinity and showing its ugly results. The Bible warns of the dangers of snake power(kundalini) and its wicked lies. Answers are not to be found in Eastern mysticism but only in Jesus Christ: in a personal relationship with Him Who calls Himself the Truth and gives us the Way to His Father. Only through Jesus Christ does anyone have access to God. He promised:
"All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Luke 10:22)
FORGIVENESS AND HEALING: If the born-again Christian has been, or is, involved in any pagan practises, has believed the lie of false teachers, or turned wittingly or unwittingly to a source of wickedness for any type of benefit or gain, and if such a one wants to be healed and return to the God of the Bible, he or she may do so now through confessing their sin, with true repentance, and letting God know they desire to turn away from sinning. The Bible teaches forgiveness is possible by going straight to Jesus Christ, our High Priest (Heb.10:20-23). He is our Living intercessor (Roms.8:34).
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and His Word is not in us." (1 Jn. 1:9-10)
